The Yukon Avalanche Association was founded in 2010 as a not-for-profit organization, to promote avalanche safety and awareness among backcountry users. Starting in 2011 the YAA partnered with Avalanche Canada to deliver an avalanche forecast for the White Pass, as well as public outreach events and skills clinics. The YAA has also developed Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES) maps, brochures and roadside signage for the White Pass and Haines Summit regions, as well as a detailed terrain atlas.
